General Timothy Ray
Commander, U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command
Timothy Michael Ray is a native of DeLand, Florida. He earned an undergraduate degree in Human Factors Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and a Master of Science in Aviation Sciences and Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He has a master of science degree in strategic studies from the Air War College and has graduated from other military courses.
He received his pilot training in Arizona and has more than 4,000 hours in the cockpit. He has had deployments to South Korea, Afghanistan, and Germany, holding many commands.
Ray served as the Director of Global Power Programs in the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition Headquarters in Washington, D.C. His two previous assignments were as the Deputy Commander, United States European Command, and the Commander, Third Air Force. He currently serves as the Commander of Air Forces Strategic Air, U.S. Strategic Command. He was nominated for promotion to general and reassignment as the commander of the Air Force Global Strike Command. The nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in March 2018.

The United States Air Force’s classic, decades-old, and combat-tested B-1B Lancet bomber has taken a huge step forward in developing the ability to fire hypersonic weapons in flight.
The Air Force released images of the aircraft flying at Edwards Air Force Base in California with a missile loaded beneath the fuselage on an external pylon. The Lancet was armed with a Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile, their news release said.
General Tim Ray, head of the Air Force Global Strike Command, said, “Adapting a small number of our healthiest B-1s to carry hypersonic weapons is vital to bridge between the bomber force we have today and the force of tomorrow.”
